Sólheimajökull

Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier in southern Iceland that descends from the southwest corner of Mýrdalsjökull. Sólheimajökull is part of the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier and is located between the volcanoes Katla and Eyjafjallajökull. Sólheimajökull is melting at a rapid pace. It is believed that the glacier will completely disappear within the next few decades. The best way to explore the glacier is on a guided hike or even on an ice-climbing tour. Sólheimajökull is a prominent and popular tourist location owing to its size and relative ease of access.
